On June 30, 2020, World Wild Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines is set to embark on another leg series of #Conservatunes with various music artists like National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab and the iconic 90’s OPM group Smokey Mountain reuniting with its original members – Tony Lambino, Shar Santos, Chedi Vergara, Jeffrey Hidalgo, Jason Angangan, James Coronel, Geneva Cruz, and Anna Fegi.
First launched in May 2020, the concert series aims to create and boost awareness for nature and support people who are in need through online concerts led by some of the acclaimed people in the local music scene.
The new leg of #Conservatune is set to raise funds for the benefit of Butanding Interaction Officers (BIO) and 200 families in Donsol, Sorsogon whose livelihood has been distressed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Municipality of Donsol, Sorsogon is known to be one of the hosts of the largest assemblage of whale sharks in the world. Summer is usually the peak of tourism excursions and visits in the town until the pandemic took place – this ceased their livelihood due to the implementation of the community quarantine.
BIOs serves as the environmental frontliners and conservators of the whale shark industry in Donsol, Sorsogon. They assist visiting tourists by being both tour guides and lifeguards who safeguard both visitors and the municipality’s rich marine life.
This effort of WWF-Philippines will continue to help the organization’s partner communities. Completing the #Conservatune series of June 2020 and also recognized as Philippine Environmental Month, are Sitti and Princess Velasco on June 27 and South Border and Yasmien Kurdi on June 28.
