Dr. Alessa Shainne L. Hostalero is an advocate, a marketing and communication professional, an academician, and an author/writer/editor. She has been involved in various industries, including advertising, retail, publications, hospitality/tourism, training and development, and academia. Shainne has been writing professionally and as an environmental advocate since 2010, a practitioner of Marketing and Communication since 2012, and an Independent Environmental Journalist since 2016. Her stint in academia, marketing, and communication leveraged her to grow her network and develop professional connections across various industries. Currently, Shainne serves as the Sr. Director for Business Development and Linkages at the National University Philippines (NU), covering all NU campuses nationwide.
She finished her master’s degree in Development Communication from the University of the Philippines and her doctorate degree in Communication (Dean’s List) from the same university. She completed her undergraduate studies with a BS in Commerce, Major in Marketing Management, from Far Eastern University, Manila. She also finished certifications/specializations in the fields of media and communication, Six Sigma, paralegal, digital marketing, journalism, and digital journalism, and entrepreneurship from international academic institutions (US and Australia).
She runs a passion project called Happy Shift PH (Happy Shift PH | http://www.happyshiftph.com), which aims to serve as a knowledge bank advocating for environmental sustainability.
Education, Training, and Certifications
Shainne holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce with a major in Marketing Management from Far Eastern University-Manila (FEU), a Master’s degree in Development Communication, and a Doctorate in Communication from the University of the Philippines (UP).
She earned various certification programs from prestigious international institutions, such as Journalism (focused on Social Change) from the University of California, Berkeley; Entrepreneurship (User Innovation) from Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Media Literacy from Arizona State University; and Digital Branding and Engagement from Curtin University, Australia. In addition, she also finished her certificates in Social Entrepreneurship from the University of the Philippines OU, and Sustainable Development Program under the SDG Academy and UN Sustainable Development Network. She is also a Six Sigma Yellow Belt certified (CSSYB), a certificated Paralegal, and a registered Author/Writer in the National Book Development Board (NBDB) Philippines.

Shainne is a member of Greenpeace Southeast Asia-Philippines, the Philippine Association for Media and Information Literacy (PAMIL), the Philippine Marketing Association (PMA), the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI), the Philippines Communication Society (PCS), and Junior Chamber International (JCI) – Valenzuela chapter (2022 LO Treasurer). She also serves as the Senior Director of Business Development and Linkages Office for National University (NU) Philippines (Shared Service/all campuses).
